<image:caption>“We can trace our changing relationship with the world through the eyes of mapmakers working with their own interests and biases. Maps are often treated as neutral tools but they are deeply human creations. They reflect the questions we ask, the values we hold, and the futures we imagine.” Associate Professor Hamylton is President of the Australian Coral Reef Society and Director of UOW’s Spatial Analysis Laboratory and has spent more than two decades mapping coastal and marine environments across Australia and the Indo-Pacific, as well as the Indian Ocean and Red Sea. Her mapping work has helped establish marine protected areas and informed coastal management policy, while her research portfolio includes more than 100 scientific papers and several previous books on coastlines and mapping.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - A close-up encounter with a stingray mouth - Standing there as the ray glided away through the water, I was left pondering what it thought of the human-holding-dog it had just encountered. Were we also a curious creature with interesting or amusing body parts? And what, for that matter, did Dexter think of the ray? In her book Vesper Flights, nature writer Helen Macdonald describes an encounter with a wild boar in a forest that momentarily realigns her relationship to nature. What have moments of interaction with nature inspired for you?</image:title>
